“It was regrettable. It was essentially an exchange with our fans out in front of us,” Jones explained during a radio appearance. “Present was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, Cowboys fans. The entire stadium was brimming with excitement for the Dallas team.”
He further clarified that the gesture was entirely unintentional, happening amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I just put up the wrong finger,” he remarked. “It was inadvertently performed. This is sincere. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got corrected rapidly.”

This is not the first time an league proprietor has been penalized for misconduct. Previous cases include:
- Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at spectators in January 2024.
