Yet nothing as characteristic. No previous president would have risked – really, no other president would have imagined – independently wrecking large sections of the executive mansion in order to erect a royal-themed celebration hall, with the active collaboration of some of America's wealthiest, the majority of whom conduct transactions with federal agencies.

As confusing as it is to watch the leader attempt to overturn the old idea regarding democracy and replace it with its complete opposite, there remains a substantial portion within America who might not perceive it totally unfamiliar. This includes individuals like us – among senior generations close to half – who were educated as mainline Protestant Christians.
We have witnessed throughout the years as politically conservative religious groups converted the Savior we learned about into the total contrary of our understanding of him. Essentially, they transformed an image of affection into an icon of animosity who approves precisely the cruelties that he denounced in scripture; this has happened more slowly, through multiple decades rather than months, yet it remains disconcerting in the same ways, a bewildering emotional blow for numerous individuals.
A Harmful Christianity Gains Ground

The Savior's reaction to violence is to offer the additional cheek – not as an act of compliant endurance, but as a means to instruct the attacker; his method regarding offenses indicates that whenever someone steals your outer garment you should give him your sweater as well.
The obvious and direct fact that the Savior in biblical accounts requests a form of radical love focused on the needy has perpetually caused Christianity rather a provocative belief system: attractive to the masses, but owing to its inherent radicalness demanding to be controlled. In the fifties it was contained by dilution – Protestant Christianity was so prevalent that it essentially baptized the status quo.
A Battle for the Finest Among Us
Hence I have become heartened to observe the steadfast resistance regarding Trump emerge over the last twelve months.
